Understanding Inclusion in Bexley
Work is underway to understand the routes taken by children in Bexley who are at risk of being, or who have been, permanently excluded from school, including those with a special educational need or disability, mental health issues or who attend alternative provision. Feeding into that work will be wider mapping work being undertaken by the Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy Group, which includes representatives from Housing, the Police, the Youth Offending Team, Early Intervention Team and Alternative Provision. This work will be the main focus of the next Inclusion sub-group meeting on 9th July 2019.
At its recent meeting, the Inclusion sub-group also learnt that work is underway at the LA to create a managed move process, which will be presented to head teachers in September 2019. Currently, there is no data around how many managed moves take place, whether they are successful and what the child’s journey has been up to that point and subsequently.
Both of these projects will inform Bexley in its desire to create an environment in Bexley where head teachers feel they have no need to exclude.
