International Day of Happiness

Friday, 20th March marks International Day of Happiness, a wonderful opportunity for us all to celebrate the power of positivity, kindness, and connection within our school communities.

In public health, wellbeing is at the heart of what we do and happiness plays a big part in helping children and young people thrive. Small moments of joy can have a big impact, whether through acts of kindness, shared laughter, or doing something meaningful for ourselves or others.

We’d love to encourage your school to take part by:

  • Doing one thing that brings happiness to you – big or small
  • Doing one thing that brings happiness to someone else – a classmate, a teacher, a friend, or a family member
  • Spreading positivity across the school community – a smile, a supportive word, or a creative activity

Some simple ideas you might like to try:

  • Start the day with a “happy thought” or gratitude moment
  • Share compliments or kindness notes
  • Create a “what makes us happy” wall display
  • Encourage pupils to take part in a small act of kindness
  • Build a short wellbeing activity into the school day, breathing exercises, mindful colouring, or a fun movement break

Whatever you choose to do, we hope it brings a moment of joy to your staff and students.

Thank you for all you do to support the wellbeing of children and young people across Bexley. Wishing you a bright and joyful International Day of Happiness!
