Paralympic Games Festival June 2023

We are really pleased to share news about a recent event that took place at Fairford Academy Barnehurst! A huge thanks to Aman and the team at arranging such a fantastic event!Paralympic Games Festival Fairford Academy Barnehurst recently hosted a Paralympic Games Festival, welcoming 130 children from 14 schools across Bexley to take part in a morning of fun-filled events designed to provide an inclusive sports event for children! The idea for the event came from Aman Sabharwal, Senco & Assistant Head Teacher at Fairford Academy Barnehurst, who reflected on the need to provide a fully inclusive sporting event for children with special educational needs and disabilities to develop their participation and engagement. The Deputy Mayor visited the event where young people aged between 7 and 11 took part in sitting volleyball, Boccia, Goal Ball and an adapted relay race. They were also joined by Morgan Squibb, who is a member of Team GB, with the 800m race being her speciality. All of the children took part in all the activities which were designed to be suitable for all abilities and levels of need, which helped to ensure everyone was involved. Visual timetables were provided to support children with how the event would be run and plenty of water was on hand with it being such a lovely day! At the end of the event, the children were awarded with medals and certificates and went back to school with huge smiles on their faces! With the event being such a success, Aman is already looking at making this a bi-annual event so that more children in Bexley can benefit from this fantastic opportunity! If you would like to be involved, please keep an eye out for more information at the beginning of the Autumn term! Photos showing the children taking part in the events.
