Raising pupil aspiration through governance diversity
At their meeting of 23rd February 2022, the Workforce Development, Succession Planning and Governance sub-group members started work to understand how schools and trusts could widen the diversity of their SLTs and, in particular, their governing bodies. Garry Ratcliffe, CEO of Galaxy Trust, shared a presentation on how their four Dartford-based primary schools had strengthened their inclusivity, diversifying their governing bodies to boost the aspiration of all pupils in their communities and to better reflect their school populations.
Members reflected on how they might use what they had learnt to improve diversity in their own schools, sharing the make-up of their own governing bodies and discussing ways in which they might pilot change.
Members also gave their feedback on a mental health and wellbeing signposting document, which should be finalised early next term.
