Reflection on remote learning for learners with SEND
Members of the SEND sub-group shared how remote learning had been adapted for learners with SEND in different types of settings, at their meeting of 5th February 2021. They acknowledged that it was difficult to track progress until all pupils returned to school, but they believed that resilience and levels of independence will have fallen during this latest lockdown period.
At the meeting, the Local Authority also agreed to draw up some guidance for schools and to host a meeting with parents to increase awareness of the legal position around the use of reduced timetables for some pupils.
Lastly, they considered the therapeutic offer in Bexley for pupils with SEMH, with a review underway in preparation for the opening of Cornerstone School in September 2021. A directory of therapy providers will be shared with schools and a paper will be drawn up for the sub-group by the end of the summer term, to determine next steps.
