COVID-19 School Admissions Update
We wish to reassure you at this time of uncertainty that Bexley’s School Admissions Team are operating in as normal a capacity as possible to ensure you will still receive outcomes to Secondary, Primary and Nursery Allocations.
Approximately 3000 pupils received their Secondary school offers on 2 March, and we are currently exchanging parental responses with other local authorities, ahead of establishing waiting lists and considering late applications.
We are on schedule to deliver outcomes to over 3000 reception and 300 junior applicants, on National Offer Day 16 April. Although staff are taking precautions in line with government recommendations, the service continues to operate to ensure that statutory obligations are adhered to.
Several parents have enquired about extending the application period for Nursery applications which closes on 6 April, this will not be necessary. Most parents will have decided at this stage which nurseries they plan to apply to, applications can be made online without any need for human interaction.
During this time of uncertainty, we are attempting to offer as normal a service as possible. Despite school closures, we are working to ensure that, when they are permitted to reopen, schools are able to promptly admit new pupils and those in the midst of transition, such as from Nursery to Reception, or Primary to Secondary receive the appropriate level of support.
We continue to plan for the 2020 Bexley Selection Test, and although current measures could cause great complications in the delivery of testing, we continue to consider alternative implementation, whilst also planning for testing to take place under normal circumstances, should the pandemic be eradicated.
