Bexley’s Growth Strategy explained
Bexley head teachers were informed at the Head Teacher Forum about Bexley’s Growth Agenda, as well as hearing feedback from co-chairs of three of the sub-groups of the Strategic Education Partnership.
The Growth Agenda will have a significant impact on schools and school place planning for the future from development which will focus on new housing, well-connected transport nodes, further development of industrial areas, and vibrant shopping, cultural and leisure facilities.
It was explained that Bexley, as a key gateway location into London is an area which will support significant growth. The development will be concentrated on two opportunity areas of Thamesmead/ Abbey Wood, and the Bexley Riverside, a stretch of 8km along the River Thames.
By 2050 Bexley is planning to have 13 new primary schools, 4.5 new secondary schools, more than 2000 new post-16 places and one new adult education centre.
The Places and Making Institute is one key outcome of the strategy.
