Addressing language gaps
Members of the Education Performance and Achievement sub-group continues to work on addressing the language gap at every stage at their meeting of 25th May 2021.The Closing the Word Gap Toolkit, which has been piloted by schools, will be launched in the second half of the summer term; the Reading for Pleasure project has restarted, now that all children are back in school, and work is going on to address language gaps and support language development at key transition points. For year 6 to year 7 transition, a project has been developed to improve knowledge of key stage 3 teachers around the primary curriculum, with a view to building links between primary and secondary schools.
Members also learnt about the Local Cultural Education Partnership, which has been set up, initially for two years, to support pupils with local arts and culture projects. It will also offer CPD for staff and help schools to achieve an Arts Mark.
