Clarity and vision on data and way forward at SEPB
Board members expressed their views about the data being collected by the Local Authority to support partnership working in support of all Bexley children, as well as setting a course for the Partnership’s work over the medium term, at the Strategic Board meeting on 21st June 2021.
In their view, information collected should be treated as ‘local data’ rather than ‘Local Authority data,’ the Partnership should inform the education community about the purpose of collecting particular data and anything learnt from use of the data should be shared openly and in a timely fashion.
Some data is already being collected for statutory purposes, such as post-16 data to support students falling out of education or training. Other requests are to support children excluded or at risk of exclusion from school and those missing education for other reasons. And, with two years of formal attainment and progress data now missing owing to the pandemic, schools have been asked to provide data for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 around standards reached in GLD, phonics, reading, writing and maths.
In terms of a medium-term strategy, members believed sub-groups should focus on emotional wellbeing and mental health, a local strategy for RI schools in MATs, emerging gaps around diversity, equality and inclusion as well as use of partnership mechanisms to share good practice.
Members also learnt about the DfE’s vision, direction of travel and approach to underperforming schools as well as the Regional Schools Commissioner’s Office’s priorities and the Government’s recovery and wider support package.
