Communication, collaborative working and action plans
At their meeting on 18th November 2021, Strategic Board members spent time considering communication between schools and the Local Authority and communication within the Strategic Education Partnership, between sub-groups where remits overlap, as well as a scrutiny activity around the sub-group action plans and next steps. The purpose of the activity was to understand how we facilitate two-way communication within the local education system.
Communication generally was rated quite highly, with most members scoring them at seven or eight out of ten, with particular positives being the head teacher induction events, the COVID-19 risk assessments, the school comms bundle and work around safeguarding. Within sub-groups, members were positive about the level of constructive challenge. However, there was work to do to engage some of the larger multi-academy trusts and governors.
Sub-group action plans were discussed. The work of the sub-groups is interconnected, and that connectivity was evident in discussions. Members highlighted where they thought there could be more collaborative working between groups, such as around what achievement looks like for children with SEN and sufficient ‘good places.’
Members were also updated on Integrated Care Systems, Public Health strategic priorities and the refresh of Bexley’s Corporate Plan.
