Dear Sir/Madam,
Consultation of the proposal to add a Sixth Form to St Catherine’s Catholic School, Bexleyheath, from September 2026.
This letter is to invite your views or comments on the proposed addition of a Sixth Form to St Catherine’s from 2026.
We are proposing to extend our school to open a Sixth Form provision for a minimum of 100 students in each year group. Initially, the sixth form would be made up of St Catherine’s students who stay on with us after Year 11 to complete Level 3 courses and enrichment. The proposal is that from September 2026, St Catherine’s Catholic School will become an 11-18 academy instead of an 11-16 academy.
We are an ‘outstanding’ Catholic School and have been judged ‘good’ by Ofsted. We have the highest progress 8 score across all the secondary schools in the London borough of Bexley. The governors and I wish to extend our provision of our ‘well-thought-out curriculum’ in a school where ‘leaders have high expectations for all pupils’ and ‘this in turn leads to strong outcomes for pupils’ to include Post 16. Everything we do, including this proposal, is rooted in our mission statement to celebrate and empower the women of the future.
We propose to be able to meet this need, initially for our students, enabling them to continue their education in a school environment which is known to them and where they are well supported both academically and pastorally.
Our proposal to add a sixth form is considered to be a ‘significant change’ and in line with the guidance from the Department for Education we must consult with all those that could be affected by our proposed change. We are therefore seeking your views and comments on our proposal. The consultation period starts on Monday 4th September 2023 and will continue until 12pm on Monday 16th October 2023.
Please complete the response form via this link Sixth form consultation survey or send any comments to info@stccg.co.uk and state consultation as the subject. The proposal is dependent on planning permission for a new build of approximately 1000m2 and funding through the Department for Education. If our governors decide to proceed with the proposal then a business plan will be submitted to the Regional Department for Education Director, as required for making a change to an academy.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our proposal.
God bless,
Nicola Thompson
Headteacher
