Transition work and good practice developments heard

Groundwork around transitions from year 6 to year 7 paid off this year, SEND sub-group members learnt at their meeting of 25th September 2020.  All primary schools had signed a pledge around this work in 2017, which meant that processes were in place to support the pupils’ moves, despite the logistical problems resulting from partial lockdown.  The sub-group will lead on similar work to improve the information flow at the nursery to primary transition and as students move into post-16 settings.
Shenstone School received a Mayor’s Commendation Award for the work it had done during the partial lockdown.  Through its ‘can do’ attitude and approach, it had managed to support children with the most complete and profound needs back in to school. This good practice and that in other Bexley schools would be collated by this sub-group.
Lastly, information was shared around the impact of the SEN Support Toolkit, one-year-on, and members heard that work is underway to develop one specifically for post-16 students.  An Early Years SEN Support Toolkit has recently been launched as has the SEN Pupil Voice Toolkit.
