Mixed picture for school applications
In their sub-group meeting of 5th February 2020, School Places and Planning members learnt that there had been fewer applications year-on-year for places in Bexley secondary schools. With nine secondary schools rated good or better by Ofsted, there was concern that most vacancies are concentrated in particular schools. There was an increase in applications for reception places with vacancies likely to be most significant in parts of Sidcup and in Thamesmead, where housing growth has not come on stream as quickly as anticipated.
Members also agreed to explore place planning for children who are excluded from mainstream schools.
