School place projections and holiday activity fund preparation
Although it is too early to be definitive, School Places and Planning sub-group members mulled over system-wide capacity issues, in their most recent meeting of 22nd January 2021. They will continue to review longer term projections of school place requirements in the borough, as some European families have departed the UK in response to Brexit while other families, with changed working patterns in light of COVID-19, have chosen to move out of London.
Members also had a final viewing of the Mainstream and SEN Commissioning Plans 2021-2023, before publication in April 2021, and agreed to highlight to the Strategic Board where some academy trusts were not returning vacancy information to the Local Authority, which were crucial to place planning going forward.
Their next project will be to turn their minds to the best way to implement the government-funded Holiday Activity Programme 2021, which aims to improve the school holiday experience for children from disadvantaged families, providing enrichment activities and meals.
