March Head Teacher Forum – what was missed

At the recent Head Teacher Forum, cancelled at short notice owing to COVID-19, we would have shared updates from the Local Authority, given feedback from January’s Joint Targeted Area Inspection – Children’s Mental Health (JTAI), and addressed two key issues for the Strategic Education Partnership.  The Partnership items, Year 3 – The Way Forward and Membership will be carried forward to the next forum, set for 6th July 2020.

Local authority updates included reminding ourselves of the different partnerships and groups that are flourishing between the Local Authority and different areas of the education community, giving us a way to work together in the face of key challenges.  These challenges range from COVID-19 and the ‘no need to exclude’ ambition to high needs funding and the mental health and wellbeing of staff and children.

Positive news to report included that 90% of EHC assessments have been completed within the 20-week statutory timeframe and that most Bexley schools, inspected under the new Ofsted framework, have been judged ‘good’.

The JTAI feedback included strengths and areas of development in leadership, children’s social care, the youth offending service, SEN and Public Health.  There was also additional feedback around schools, which was not provided in the final report.

The presentations prepared for the meeting are stored in the document centre, via the link below.
