More schools return data on current vacancies
A big thank-you to all head teachers who responded to the request from the School Places and Planning sub-group for regular updates on the number of vacancies they have in their schools. In May 80% of primary schools and 50% of secondary schools responded to the request – a marked increase on earlier returns.
The sub-group had agreed to make the process less onerous – only asking for data once a month, instead of weekly for primary schools – and to send an automated acknowledgement to schools in response to the return. The co-chairs, Shireen Razey and Mark Hannon, also communicated to schools, at the Secondary Head Teachers’ Forum and the Head Teachers’ Forum, the importance of sending in the data to the local authority.
