Strategic School Improvement fund closes, with less than half of the promised money spent to date

The Strategic School Improvement Fund, which had been set up by the Department for Education to support schools and academies in areas including leadership, governance, teaching methods and financial management has closed, with 60% of the £140m fund allocated at its launch left unspent. A new way of supporting school improvement is under review.
