Bexley expresses an interest to open a special provision free school

Bexley has expressed an interest to the Department for Education to open a special day provision for young people with complex needs. If successful, in line with the ambition of the School Places and Planning sub-group, all schools and academy trusts will be informed of the opportunity to bid to manage the free school.

The expression of interest has been submitted with a view to preventing additional pressure on the high needs funding block and to reduce the number of pupils with complex needs travelling to schools outside of the borough. This would save on transport costs and improve the wellbeing of the young people involved.

The DfE will notify successful local authorities early in 2019.
